Art for Mystical America
-
May, 2004
Johanna Pieterman of Orkney Design and I have begun collaborating about the cover art for my new album, Mystical America. We have some ideas about depicting a women representing the diversity of America on the cover; spiritual aspects of the album’s mystical places will be symbolically represented with four symbols: sage, a petroglyph, an Ogham letter and a wheel. These elements will be woven into the drawing and also drawn separately for inclusion in other parts of the album. Johanna will hand draw this work using colored pencil! The finished piece will be about 18 inches square. Johanna lives in the Orkney Islands of Scotland. She is famous for the work she has done of Stevie Nicks and album covers for Blackmore’s Night (Ritchie Blackmore’s band, formerly of Deep Purple). I'm honored to do this project with her.
In the Studio
-
April, 2004
My Producer, Chris Camozzi, and I are very busy in the studio recording my new album, Mystical America. We have been collaborating and I have been practicing as hard as I can for the last couple of months leading up to our studio dates. We in completely in sync on the direction we are headed musically with this album and I'm very excited about it. This is going to be a blast!
Joining us in the studio to record tracks for the album are Mary Pitchford on violin, Scott Fuller's orchestral strings, and Diane Grubbe on contemporary and wooden flute. Diane has some amazing flutes that will have a beautiful effect on “Totem’s Whisper” a song we are recording for the album that is about the Tongass Islands and sacred totem poles in Alaska. Her flute sounds like wind blowing through the Totem Poles.
The album will be recorded at Chris’s studio, Mosaic Music. Piano tracks will be recorded at Open Path Studio by Nelson Braxton, (yes, that’s Nelson Braxton of the The Braxton Brother’s!) He also contributed his piano recording techniques for my last release, Pianoscapes for Trails of North America.

I'm really happy that we will be contributing a portion of the proceeds of the sales of my forthcoming CD, Pianoscapes for the Trails of North America, to the National Arbor Day Foundation. We will also be including tree seeds within the packaging of every CD. We planted some seeds and they have already sprouted. Hopefully, between these two efforts, we’ll start a small forest.
